In Memory of Marion Doctor

It had never been done before.

Marion Doctor

Thank You for being a woman with an indelible spirit and a beautiful heart. Thank you for recognizing that our kiddos leaving the hospital needed more. It wasn’t enough to heal the wounds and close the skin.

In one second, a life changes forever.

As a Social Worker with Children’s Hospital Colorado, Marion believed we could do more for kids. Even in 1983, insurance was limiting what could be done inside the hospital walls. Marion dreamed of a place where burn survivors could come together an heal, a place different from the hospital, a beautiful place in nature.

She found a home for burn survivors at Cheley Colorado Camps. At the same time Marion was looking for a place to host her dream, Don and Carol Cheley of Cheley Colorado Camps were looking to serve a different population.

You can call it fate. You can call it determination. You can call it divine intervention. You can call it whatever you want.

We are forever grateful.

A beautiful partnership was formed and the Cheley Children’s Hospital Colorado Burn Camp hosted it’s first session in 1983. Burn Camp has touched thousands of lives. It has helped hundreds of kids recover and heal. It has made the world shine a little brighter for many of us.
